Chefs Grace Crossman and Laura Brahn needed branding that matched their culinary style: sophisticated, eclectic, and fun.
With a focus on local seasonal ingredients and a varied mix of culinary influences, the breakfast and lunch menu at Cardinal is both sophisticated and down-to-earth. They also offer custom menus for catered events and throw pop-up dinners with varied themes that draw from cuisines around the world.
We chose to match this culinary approach with branding as multi-layered as Cardinal's offerings by creating a system that employs several logos and icons to give the brand a fun and flexible identity. At the center of it all, is a mythical winged goddess. This choice was inspired by chef Grace's stick and poke tattoo work and borrows from the legend that the cardinal is the daughter of the sun who delivered fire to early man. The supporting graphics and typography harken back to an era when things were made from scratch.
